Software disk crashes
A disk crash can also be caused by a software problem. If one part of the disk that contains vital operating system code becomes corrupted it is possible that the system will not be able to read and write data properly rendering the system unusable. A malfunctioning, buggy or maliciously written program can also overwrite critical system data on the disk rendering the system unusable. Static electricity and power outages can also corrupt certain critical sections of the disk making the system unusable. If your disk is experiencing a software based disk crash it is almost always possible to recover your important data from the disk.
